Jordan Kee b. 1993 Delaware, currently residing in Portland, graduated with a BFA in painting from Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine arts in 2016. My work draws heavily from surrealism, symbolism, Neo-expressionism and primitivism. I build my paintings around persistent symbols of humanity and its’ connection to the landscape e.g. eyes, stars, eggs, hands, clouds… I collect these symbols from ancient art and use them in my work because I am fascinated by how little we change as humans and how we are able to find meaning in the same places as we would have tens of thousands of years ago. Figures are pervasive in my work, resembling stone monuments, usually weathered, frozen in space with distorted features, they serve as witnesses to this notion of eternal sameness.
